San Antonio- The Roadrunners have locked up legendary head coach Larry Coker for five more years.
The new contract replaces Coker's old one and guarantees him $2.25 million over the next five seasons. Coker has lead the Roadrunners to an astounding 19-15 through the program's first three seasons and looks to earn the program's first bowl bid in 2014. Its clear now that Coker wasn't using UTSA as a spring board for his career and is truly adamant on building this program from scratch.
"I'm extremely grateful for the support from Lynn Hickey and Dr. (Ricardo) Romo. My family and I are very happy at UTSA and we love the San Antonio community. We are working very hard to build this program the right way and this new contract will help us continue to move forward toward accomplishing our goals." Coker said about his new deal. The feeling is mutual as Lynn Hickey, the assistant AD and key proponent responsible for the program's existence, said, "We could not be any more thankful for the work Coach Coker has done in building this program from the ground up. He has brought a lot to UTSA — so much beyond the victories on the field — and we are excited to be able to extend his time here. We look forward to many more years with Coach Coker as the leader of UTSA football." (courtesy goutsa.com)
The Runners start their 2014 campaign Friday August 29th on the road vs the Houston Cougars. Coach Coker looks to add to his already blooming legacy in San Antonio as his team vies for its first ever bowl birth and bowl win.
